1869 Club’s generosity

Date: 15 June 2015

Preston Grasshoppers RFC’s supporters group, ‘The 1869 Club’, have once again shown their incredible generosity by raising and donating money to two very good causes at the club.

The 1869 Club regularly run trips to 1st XV away games which are open to all supporters and are publicised on the website. The trips typically involve a lunch stop on the way to the game and make for a cracking Saturday out.

After spending the day at Sandbach RUFC watching both the 2nd and 3rd XV’s in Cup Final action, 1869 Club treasurer and Club President Hadyn Gigg has suggested buying 10 rugby balls for the 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th XV’s to use at training. Anyone who has ever purchased a good quality ball will know that they are not cheap and this gesture from the 1869 Club is a very kind and timely one with the new season on the horizon.

The 1869 Club have also promised £1,000 towards the purchase and repair of equipment in the ever improving gym facility at the club. The gym played a big part in a new approach for the Senior Squad last season with many players returning much more quickly from injury thanks to rehabilitation work in the gym.

The group has also put its name forward to sponsor a barrel of beer at HopFest, our inaugural beer festival which is running from 3rd-5th July.

1869 Club Secretary Les Harrison commented on the donations saying ‘This is the sort of support the ‘1869’ Club exists to provide and we will continue to do so whenever possible’.
