Duffy joins Coaching Team

Date: 06 July 2016

The club are pleased to announce that Jason Duffy will be joining the club as 1st XV Backs Coach. Jason’s appointment comes on the back of Olly Viney stepping back from coaching to concentrate on playing and family with the impending arrival of his third child in November. The club would like to thank Olly for his efforts last season and look forward to him performing as a senior player in the squad.

Jason played professionally at Sale Sharks alongside Hoppers 1st XV Coach Garth Dew having represented England School U18’s. Unfortunately his playing career was brought to an early end through injury. Wanting to stay involved with the game, Jason set about developing himself in to a very well respected and innovative coach who now has extensive experience. His roles to date have included England U16’s Attack Coach, Sale Sharks Academy Coach and Director of Rugby at his home club Broughton Park, as well as running the Lancashire U18’s.

Upon joining the club Jason said “I am really excited to work alongside Alan and Garth to help evolve the clubs attacking philosophy. Coaching is a passion for me and I relish the opportunity to contribute to the development of individual and team attacking skills.” He went on to say “Preston Grasshoppers is a club steeped in history and I am very much looking forward to the challenges that lie ahead.”

When asked about Jason joining the club Director of Rugby Alan Holmes said “Firstly I would like to take the opportunity to thank Olly Viney for his hard work and support over the last season. He did a great job with the backs and I look forward to his continued input as a senior player.”

He added “I have tracked Jason’s progress as a coach and I am delighted to get him on board. Jason is a very accomplished young coach and I feel he will add great value to our coaching team. We have an exciting young squad at Preston and I believe that the addition of Jason is another step forward in our road to success.”
