U16s show strength in depth

Date: 05 November 2014

Hoppers U16s  41  Sedgley Park U16s  7

The U16s won at home 41-7 against Sedgley Park, a true testament to the growing strength of the squad with 9 players unavailable due to Lancashire commitments and injury etc

It was a game of two halves, although the scoring doesn’t reflect this!! In the first half Hoppers were dominant  and consistently created 6 or 7 good phases of rucking and passages of play. The supporters enjoyed some entertaining rugby including a run by Jack which took us from our 20 metres to their 20 metre line (Danny Care eat your heart out) and two by Lorcan on his debut, who headed in field off his wing at pace taking two or three players to stop him. The scorers this half were: Tries:- Lorcan (2), Charlie (1) and Connor (1), with 1 conversion from Will Walker. Sedgley scored a tap penalty on the stroke of half time, which they converted. This meant that at half time the score was 22-7.

With 6 changes at half time the game seemed to go a little “flat” and Sedgley won more scrummage and loose ball. Little Will had a run out at scrum half and despite getting thrown off the ball by their scrum half he showed great tenacity and stuck to his task. Matt H-D showed pace every time he got the ball and had obviously thought that he had the beating of them for pace as he kicked ahead just outside our 20 metres and beat everyone to the ball for a great try. Charlie and Will W. finished off some good work to score and Will W converted two of the three tries, which left the final score 41-7.
