U16s wear down Kirkby

Date: 02 December 2014

Hoppers U16   61   Kirkby Lonsdale U16   12
16th November

A bright, fresh Sunday morning greeted us at Lightfoot Green for this encounter with Kirby Lonsdale.

The game started at a frenetic pace, and for the first 15 mins there was a number of handling errors and turnovers from both teams. The first try of the game came from Hoppers after some very good midfield play finished off by Matt S. His conversion went over, 7-0 Hoppers. Kirby Lonsdale didn’t let their heads go down and came back strongly, scoring a try in the corner. The conversion was missed and half time came. 7-5.

After a number of personnel changes for Hoppers the second half got under way. Kirby Lonsdale caught us early and scored a try which was converted. 7-12.This was to be the last time they troubled the scorer as Hoppers ran in 8 unanswered tries, 7 of which were converted by the excellent kicking of Matt S. This dominant second half display was down to very strong forward play and some slick backs moves which were a joy to watch.

The game ended on a sad note with what at the time looked like a serious neck injury to one of the Kirby Lonsdale forwards (Thankfully he was subsequently given the all clear after a thorough check up at RPH)  I am sure we all wish him a speedy recovery.
Final score Preston Grasshoppers 61 Kirby Lonsdale 12.
