Forster joins Hoppers

Date: 27 July 2015

One of Fylde RFC’s brightest young talents, fly-half Tom Forster, is joining Preston Grasshoppers on loan for the 2015/16 season.

Former AKS student Tom has played in the Club’s Junior teams, was a Colt last season and broke through into the Hawks squad towards the end of the campaign. He also played for a Fylde XV against ‘Hoppers in the Brendan Hanavan Trophy match in April. In addition Tom has represented Lancashire U18’s earlier in the season and as a latecomer to the county campaign, was still able to secure a North of England trial.

Fylde Head Coach Paul Arnold said: “Tom is an ambitious young player of great potential. The chance of 1st team National Two (North) league opportunities at ‘Hoppers should be an excellent development route for him. We will never block the chances of a young player to advance his rugby career and we hope that he’ll appear once again in a claret & gold shirt in the not too distant future.”

Preston Grasshoppers’ Chairman of Rugby Alan Holmes knows Tom’s abilities very well as he’s a teacher at AKS and when asked about the signing he said: “Having watched Tom progress over the last 3 seasons with the AKS senior squad, I am delighted that he is able to join us a Hoppers. Tom has worked very hard on his skill levels and conditioning, which has allowed him to back up his natural reading of the game and game management. He is a very talented young player and with in experience national league back line around him, including Olly Viney, Sean Taylor, Sammy Russell and Scott Jordan. This make for an ideal environment for Tom to develop and flourish in his first year of senior rugby.”
