Hoppers Come Dancing Success

Date: 30 March 2015

A 250 strong audience packed Lightfoot Green on Saturday night to watch the 6th edition of Hoppers Come Dancing whilst raising money for Christies in the process.

6 couples competed for the trophy and after scoring a perfect 40 out of 40 from the judges, as well receiving the most money from the audience in their vote box, James Mawdsley and Samantha Maloney were crowned champions. The couple wowed the audience with a fusion of Tango and Argentinian Tango and received a standing ovation from the crowd. Not content with the ovation, they also managed to move one of the judges to tears.

The generosity of the audience meant that £1903.40 was raised for Christies. The end of the evening proved to be rather emotional as the cheque was handed over to James’ mum Alison. James has been undergoing treatment for stage 3 Hodgkin’s Lymphoma with Christies and still has one more bout of treatment to go. Somehow he has managed to fit all of his training for Hoppers Come Dancing around his treatment which is a huge testament to James’ character.

The club would like to thank all the dancers, judges and choreographers who gave up their time during the last 10 weeks in preparation for the show. Your time was well worth it and you were part of something very special. Thank you.
