Hughes Making His Mark

Date: 16 December 2014

Sale Sharks visited Saracens on Saturday and with an hour on the clock Sale introduced 19 year old flanker Andrew Hughes from the bench to replace All Black Dan Braid for what was his fifth 1st XV appearance at Sale. An impressive achievement for such a young player plying his trade in the pack alongside seasoned internationals.

Andrew started his career here at Lightfoot Green playing all the way through the mini/junior section before heading to Hartpury College in Gloucester at age 16 to study A-levels and play rugby in the AASE programme. Whilst at Hartpury Andrew received international recognition when he was selected for the England Under 18s side.

Here at Lightfoot Green we are very proud of what Andrew has achieved so far and we hope he can go on and establish himself as part of the Sale team. Well done Andrew.

P.S. Sale’s squad on Saturday included 4 players who have played at Lightfoot Green in recent seasons. Tom Brady and Nathan Fowles spent time on loan at Hoppers whilst Mike Haley and Andy Hughes both cam through the Mini/Juniors.
