Mini/Junior Weekend round-up

Date: 06 October 2015

A number of Minis teams went to the Manchester Festival this weekend. The Under 7s had their first experience of Festival rugby and had a great day out, the game against local rivals Fylde being the highlight. It was smiles all round with the reward of certificates from the Sale Sharks players in attendance.

The Under 9’s travelled to the Manchester Festival with 1 squad of 10 players. The festival format consisted of the squad playing in two pools of 4. On the conclusion of the 6 games PGH were unbeaten having scored 38 tries and only conceded 4. In addition the team were awarded the “Fair Play” award. An excellent return from their first contact festival

The Under 10s also had a great day at Manchester reaching the Quarter final after emerging unbeaten from the group stages. Unfortunately they were beaten by a determined and skillful Macclesfield team, however, the boys played with pride and passion for the Hoppers shirt and continue to impress the coaches and travelling army of parents that come to watch.

It was also the opening day of the Blacksticks Blue Junior Challenge cup.

The Under 13s opened their campaign with an impressive 30*-0 win at home to Fleetwood, more pleasing than the result was the way the lads played – all contributed to a great team effort.

The Under 14s suffered a narrow 14-17 loss away at Warrington – at least a losing bonus point was secured which could be important later in the competition, while an Under 14s Development team had a good 30-15 win over Waterloo.

The Under 16s lost their cup opener 21-34 away at Eccles. It was a bruising and physical encounter with resources on both sides at their limits.
