New Faces Bolster Hoppers

Date: 21 November 2014

PGRFC have moved to strengthen their playing squad with the addition of three new faces.

Centre Sam Russell, winger Tahir El Mahdi and wing/fullback Scott Jordan have all joined the Lightfoot Green ranks and will provide increased competition for places behind the scrum.

Russell & El Mahdi have already featured in recent weeks whilst Jordan is expected to make his debut versus Luctonians on Saturday.

Russell is a strong running centre with experience at National 2 level with both Caldy & Fylde. His left footed kicking will also provide a further option to the sides kicking game.

El Mahdi (known as Cookie to one and all) joins on a dual registration deal from Sale Sharks. A member of the Sharks academy, he has played in the A League for the Jets and has 7’s experience for both the Sharks and Leicester Tigers. An out and out winger he will bring pace and an attacking flair to the Hoppers backline.

Jordan joins Hoppers from Wharfedale where he was a regular try scorer at National 1 level. Previously with Westoe, Jordan has moved to the Preston area. Equally at home at both fullback and on the wing, he will be missed by the “Green Army” where he was a firm crowd favourite.

Director of Rugby Gareth Dyer said ” I’m delighted to welcome Sam, Tahir and Scott to Lightfoot Green. They are three quality players who will each add to our options behind the scrum. They are three young men but already have plenty of experience and I’m excited to get them involved”.
