Preston Grasshoppers RFC came into the May Bank Holiday weekend with a chance of some serious silverware but nobody at the club could have predicted quite how successful the weekend would turn out to be.
On Saturday the 2nd and 3rd XV’s headed for Sandbach to play Vale of Lune and Leigh respectively in the BEST Cup Finals. A special mention must go to the band of over 40 supporters who also made the trip to support the lads. The 3rd XV kicked off proceedings and after a tight start to the game managed to pull clear of Leigh to run out 33-10 winners and lift the trophy.

Following straight on from the thirds was the 2nd XV who were up against Vale of Lune. The lads ground out a tight first half up the slope and managed to pull away after the break to finish as 27-8 victors.

It was the Mini/Junior sections chance to shine on Sunday with both the Junior and Senior Colts in Lancashire Cup Final action.
The Junior Colts found themselves trailing 20-3 with just ten minutes remaining and it looked like a fifth successive Lancashire Cup wasn’t to be. An incredible comeback from the lads left the match level at 27-27 at the final whistle. Cup rules dictated that the game had to be settled with a dramatic penalty kick shoot out. Amazingly the lads managed to hold their nerve a win the shoot out 6-5 to secure the Lancashire Cup!

The stage was now set for the Senior Colts to complete a Colts double and thankfully the lads didn’t disappoint as they saw off Rochdale 33-12.

As the dust started to settle on an incredible May bank holiday weekend more good news started to filter through via social media that the Under 10’s had won the Darlington Rugby Festival!
