BACK-TO-BACK WINS FOR HOPPERS CRICKET

Hoppers Cricket made it two wins in a row and recorded their 5th win of the season on Wednesday, 25th July, beating newcomers to the league, Preston North End, at Lightfoot Green.

The visitors started very positively with opener R McNally hitting 25 in just three overs. His opening partner R Wood was bowled for 22 but numbers 3 and 4, S Logan and G Atkinson both retired on 25. A big score looked on the cards but some tight bowling by Cameron Berry, Craig Steel and Neil Thornton restricted the 20-overs total to 129 – 3.

Hoppers also began with a purpose with opener Ali Murray retiring on a swift 27 and No. 4, ‘Roadie’ Hothersall was also unbeaten on 25. The home side were well ahead of the rate and Craig Steel was the next to carry his bat for 25 but then a cascade of wickets including two disastrous run-outs put the result in doubt and it was left to No. 11 Berry to hit the winning runs with just two balls to spare.

Hoppers 132-6 (A Murray 27 ret, R Hothersall 25 ret, C Steel 25 ret, S Logan 4-0-16-2)

PNE 129-3 (R McNally 25 ret, S Logan 25 ret, G Atkinson 25 ret, R Wood 22)

Men of the Match: Hoppers – A Murray, PNE –  G Atkinson

Hoppers remain 6th in the table with just 3 games to play.
