DAVIDSON LEADS THE WAY AS FIRST NEW FACE AT LIGHTFOOT GREEN

Date: 08 August 2018

PGRFC is delighted to announce the experienced Tom Davidson as its first new signing to join the club ahead of their return to National Two North for the 2018/19 season.

Davidson 27, joins Hoppers from National 2 North rivals Wharfedale for whom he made over 160 appearances across National One and National Two North since his debut in the 2008/9 season. He also spent a season on loan at Bradford & Bingley when they were at Level 4 meaning that he is quickly closing in on 200 career appearances. An accomplished goalkicker, Davidson has scored over 650 career points despite not always being first choice kicker at Wharfedale.

Comfortable at fly-half, centre or fullback, Davidson has won represented honours for Yorkshire at U20 level and has also represented Latvia internationally having qualified through his Latvian grandfather.

Tom is also an accomplished cricketer having been captain of Settle CC in the Ribblesdale league and has led them to several trophies over the years as a fine all-rounder.

Speaking on his decision to join PGRFC, Tom said “I am very excited to have signed for such a prestigious club. After meeting with management and players, Hoppers is a club with huge ambition on and off the field. After speaking with several players, it was clear that they all hold the way the club is run in high regard. The decision to leave Wharfedale after 10 years was a very difficult one but at this stage in my career I believe it to be the best decision for me. I am thoroughly looking forward to the challenges the new season will bring”.

Head Coach Paul Arnold said “I am thrilled that Tom is joining us. He can play in several positions, is a good goal kicker and will add to our leadership group given he is a very experienced player with a lot of rugby at a good level behind him. I will be asking Tom to help with coaching as he is a well-qualified coach and this is something he is keen to develop and we are keen to use. He will add competition for selection behind the scrum and I look forward to seeing him in the Hoppers shirt”.

Welcome to Lightfoot Green Tom!
