Ed joined Hoppers ahead of the 2022-23 season, having made the move north from Maidenhead, and quickly established himself as a key figure within the first-team squad.
Over four seasons, Ed made 65 first-team appearances for the club, becoming a consistent and influential presence in the backs while earning the respect of teammates, coaches and supporters, both on and off the pitch.
Unfortunately, a serious back injury sustained during the 2025-26 season, and the surgery that followed, has brought Ed's playing career to an end. While it is a disappointing way for Ed to finish his time on the field, he leaves with the gratitude and admiration of everyone associated with Preston Grasshoppers.
Although stepping away from playing, Ed remains involved in the game and will begin a new chapter at Blackburn RUFC, where he takes up the role of Backs Coach.
Head Coach Dan Orwin paid tribute to Ed's contribution to the club: “We are really sorry to see Ed leave Preston. In his four years with us, he has been a key player on the pitch, and a great bloke off the pitch.
“We wish him, Ashley, and their three boys all the best at Blackburn, and we hope to see Ed back at Hoppers in a coaching role in the future.
Thanks for all your efforts at Hoppers, Ed!”
Thank you, Ed, and good luck from all at Preston Grasshoppers
