Hoppers welcomes back Tom Lee returning to the ranks after time away

Jackie Ballard23 Jun - 09:11

Preston Grasshoppers is pleased to welcome Tom Lee back into the fold after a period spent travelling.

A former Kirkham Grammar School student who came through the Sale Sharks Academy, Lee returns to Lightfoot Green having stepped away from the game to gain valuable life experience off the pitch. Now back at the club, he re-joins the squad refreshed, motivated and ready to re-engage with the demands of National League rugby.

A back three player with real pace and physicality, Lee brings athleticism and directness to Hoppers’ outside channels, offering a genuine attacking threat and added competition across the backfield.

Lee previously made five first-team appearances in the senior team during the 2022–23 season, before heading off to travel. His return comes at an important time as preparations continue to build towards the 2026/27 campaign. With a strong rugby foundation and fresh energy, Lee adds both quality and depth to the squad.

Head Coach Dan Orwin welcomed him back: “It’s great to have Tom back involved again. Taking time away to travel is something a lot of lads benefit from, and he’s come back in a really good place, both physically and mentally.

“While he was away he played rugby union in New Zealand, and League in Australia, and I’ve kept tabs on his progress. He brings real quality back into the group. He’s got genuine pace and physicality, and having already had a taste of first-team rugby here, we’re looking forward to seeing him push on this season.”

As the squad continues to take shape, his return represents another positive step in building competition, depth and cohesion ahead of the new season.

New signings announcements to follow, along with the First XV men's fixtures list for the next season, which is due any day now!
