John Airey died in RPH in late February. He was a long standing Hoppers supporter and 1869 Club member, and a frequent traveller to away games. John had a motor vehicle business on the Fylde coast. He continued to travel with the 1869 Club to Hoppers' 1st Team away fixtures until last year, when his mobility suffered somewhat. Many will remember him for his tasteful tweed suits and his presence in the 1869 Bar, where he would demonstrate his encyclopaedic knowledge of Preston and Fylde pubs and publicans. Other hobbies included visits to almost every horse racing venue in the country; perhaps somebody knows whether he completed his ambition to visit every race track in Britain? He certainly got close to it. Funeral service St Andrews, Hoyles Lane at 11am Tuesday 25th March. Wake and celebration of his life to follow at The Ancient Oak, Cottam.
