Proccy bids farewell after 24 years at Hoppers

Proccy bids farewell after 24 years at Hoppers

Jackie Ballard2 Jun - 14:22

From mini to legend, one of our final leaver announcements this season is a knee-high-to-grasshopper.

Luke Procter now aged 31 has been at Preston Grasshoppers since he was seven years old and has represented every Hoppers senior team, from the old sixth team, right through to the 1st XV team.

Known popularly as ‘Proccy’, Luke is a club legend. He has made 119 1st Team appearances in his time a ‘senior player,’ scoring 20 tries. He has been an incredibly durable player in this time and has been extremely committed to training and to the club.

Proccy is best known for his abrasive ball carrying. He never fails to win the gainline, making yards for the team, and bouncing defenders off as he goes.

Proccy said: “This feels like the end of an era for me. Bittersweet would probably be the word for it. I’ve made some incredible friends through this club and will always have the amazing memories.

"I’m excited to get stuck into a new challenge at Vale of Lune, who have just been promoted to the league below Hoppers! #onceahopper!”

Head Coach, Dan Orwin, said “Proccy leaves as a club legend. He made his 1st Team debut back in the 2012-13 season, under Loughy, and has been a true clubman throughout his time here.

"On behalf of the club, I want to thank Proccy for his considerable efforts in a Hoppers shirt. Clubmen like Proccy are getting rarer these days, and he should be so proud of his Hoppers career.

"We wish him all the very best in his new challenge at The Vale, and we wish his wife Rosie, and their young family, all the very best too!”

Further announcements of our re-signings and new signings to follow soon!
