The windy conditions made it a nightmare at times, but this didn’t stop the Ionians running in five tries.
The visitors opened the scoring in just the third minute, as Sam Pocklington found a gap in the Grasshoppers defence, powering through to score.
Outside centre Minikin added the extras.
On the 20th minute, Ionian’s number eight George Mewburn broke through the Hoppers line for their second try of the match. Minikin wasn’t able to convert.
Just two minutes later, Minikin scored his first try of the game, jinking through the Hoppers defence. He added the extras just after.
Hoppers tight head prop Mike Ashdown then received a red card for a boot to the head.
Minikin continued his scoring, adding two penalties for the Ionians.
He then punished Hoppers once again after a little dink over their defence let the centre run over for his second try. He also added the extras.
After the break, the star man got his hattrick, scoring under the posts, adding another two as well.
Hoppers Jacob Browne was carded in the second half but the hosts avoided conceding in the second 40 minutes.
It ended 39-0
A disappointing day for Hoppers.
