We return to Lightfoot Green this Saturday afternoon full of confidence after last weekend’s excellent win away at Hull. That result was the perfect response to defeat the week before and gives us a real platform to build momentum in front of our home crowd.
Our visitors, Macclesfield, have started the season strongly with three wins from three and will arrive among the early pace-setters in National League 2 North. We know they will provide a stern test, but we are excited for the challenge and ready to meet it head-on.
There’s a notable change to our line-up this week with Alex Ward making his first start of the season at fly-half. He links up with Rory Brand at scrum-half to form a fresh half-back pairing, while the midfield of Billy Glover and Sammy Russell offers both power and guile. Out wide, Owain Williams and Jacob Browne bring pace, with Sam Freeman providing security at full-back.
Up front, Tom Ailes takes the No. 8 shirt and will look to carry strongly from the base, supported in the back row by captain Josh Longson and the industrious Scott Richardson. In the second row, Ewan Naylor partners Ellis Causey, combining strength in the tight with mobility around the park. The front row of Will Parkinson, Harry Holden and Sam Kyle-Clay provides a solid platform at scrum time, while a strong bench featuring Daz Hill, Harrison Causey, Robbie Willetts, Ed Keohane and Louis Singleton ensures impact later in the game.
The coaches were really pleased with the character and control shown at Hull and will be looking for more of the same this week. With potentially wet conditions expected, we know discipline, accuracy at the set-piece, and smart game management will be key.
We’re determined to make the most of home advantage and show our supporters that last week’s result was just the start of our upward push. Kick-off is 2:30pm at Lightfoot Green — we look forward to seeing you there to cheer the lads on.
