Preston Grasshoppers travel to Heslam Park this Saturday to face Scunthorpe in National League 2 North, as they fulfil a rearranged fixture that was postponed earlier in the season.
Hoppers head into the game in excellent form, having built strong momentum in recent weeks. Successive victories over Darlington Mowden Park (66–26), Otley (29–11) and most recently a dramatic 39–37 win against Sheffield Tigers have lifted confidence and demonstrated the attacking quality within the squad. After a difficult spell earlier in 2026, Preston now look a side finding rhythm at exactly the right time in the campaign.
Scunthorpe, meanwhile, have endured a challenging season and currently sit at the foot of the table. Recent results have been mixed, with notable wins against Fylde (36–33) and Hull (41–32) showing their capability, but defeats to Macclesfield (50–19), Sheffield (55–31) and Billingham (31–17) highlighting inconsistency. Playing at home, they will be determined to make life difficult, particularly in a fixture that offers them a chance to pick up valuable points.
In terms of the league table, Preston have moved clear of immediate danger and are now pushing towards mid-table, while Scunthorpe remain in need of results. With only a handful of games remaining, every point is significant for both sides, albeit for very different reasons.
The reverse fixture earlier in the season saw Hoppers deliver one of their standout performances, running out emphatic 74–7 winners at Lightfoot Green Lane. That result will give Preston confidence, but they will be fully aware that away fixtures in this division present a very different challenge.
With momentum on their side and attacking confidence growing, Hoppers will travel to Scunthorpe looking to maintain their upward trajectory. If they can match the intensity and clinical edge shown in recent weeks, there is every reason to believe they can return from Heslam Park with another positive result.
