Both teams came into Saturday's clash unbeaten but it was the hosts who got off to the fastest start tasking an early 3-0 lead with Sam Freeman kicking a penalty through from in front of the sticks.

It didn't take long for the first try to arrive, Ben Haigh breaking through the Harrogate line before handing off to Scott Richardson to score the try with Freeman converting to extend the lead to double digits.

Hoppers didn't let up when shortly after Jacob Browne found himself in space to break down the wing, being held up just before the try line but offloading to Jennings to go over.

The visitors managed to get themselves on the before, Amrit Sharma opportunistically pouncing on a dropped Hoppers pass to score. Mallinson couldn't convert however leaving the score at 17-5.

It was a quick response from Dan Orwin's side however, Tom Walker playing a tidy kick cross pitch to find Browne who once again found Jennings to double his tally.

Hoppers put the game to bed before the half time whistle. Three quick fire tries in the last ten minutes off the half with Richardson getting his double, Jennings assisting Browne to score his 1st try and then some excellent long range passing from Hoppers allowing Jennings to secure his hat-trick gave the hosts a commanding 45-5 lead at the half with Sam Freeman converting all six tries.

As the second half began the fans at Lightfoot Green wouldn't have been amiss to expect Hoppers to continue to run up the score but the Yorkshire outfit came out and showed the skill they possessed to win their first two games.

Two early tries in the half from Greg Minikin and Tom Steene, both converted by Mallinson cut the lead down to 26.

The visitors then made sure they wouldn't be travelling home empty handed securing their bonus point courtesy of a Jacob Percival line-out try.

Hoppers squashed any idea of a comeback when Tom Ailes powered through to go over with Josh Ree converting to take Hoppers over the 50 point mark for the afternoon.

In rather remarkable circumstances, the hosts were shown three yellow cards in the final 10 minutes allowing Sam Gott to score a consolation try for the visitors, the final score 52-33.

Hoppers head coach Dan Orwin was delighted with his teams 1st half showing.

He said: "When we get the nuts and bolts of our game right, the basics, we move the ball well against a big pack, that's what a get, a dominant performance."

On next week's trip to Wharfedale, Orwin expressed there's no room for complacency.

He added: "How you play one week has no bearing on how you playing the following week. We have to start again each week."
