Mini / Junior weekend round-up

Date: 06 May 2015

The Minis were on tour this weekend visiting Middlesbrough and taking in the Darlington Tournament.

The Under 7s were on their first ever tour beating competitive Middlesbrough on Saturday and put together an excellent set of results against various teams from the North East at the Darlington Festival, the development in the players skills was evident in the games, all in all a great end to a long season.

The Under 9s had 3 highly competitive games against Middlesbrough on Saturday just losing out to the hosts, on Sunday they lost out naroowly to Sunderland and Yarm to finish 3rd in their group but in the game against Billingham all the years efforts in training suddenly came together with a pleasurable team display, full of confidence they went on to win 2 more games and left the tournament with heads held high.

The Under 10s had a memorable weekend, after beating Middlesbrough on Saturday, they went on to play and win 6 games at the Darlington Festival scoring 26 tries in total! The tackling was superb, Conor Kyriakou giving a text book display, the running was incredible – the lads have mastered a switch move from the scrum – Charlie Read, Matt Wright, Ely Graveson all making devastating runs. All the boys played and they all contributed to the win. The semi final was against a strong Morely side, we won 5-0. The final was against Rotherham, it was close but Tom Pritchard sealed the win for Hoppers with a try about 2 mins from the whistle. A great weekend, well done to all the squad.

Both Colts teams were in Lancashire Cup Final action this weekend.

The Junior Colts faced a tough task against Glossop who were really up for the game, and as usual it took Hoppers about 20 mins to get going. Glossop fought really hard, and with less than 10 mins left to play, Glosop scored to lead 27-15. Then came the Hoppers fightback, two tries and a conversion to be level at the Final whistle. Hoppers then held their nerve to win a penalty kick shoot out to claim their 4 Lancashire Cup in a row.

Special mention to Coach Chris Johnson who has now led teams to a grand total of 10 Lancashire Cup Wins.

The Senior Colts faced Rochdale in their final and went on to win 33-12 to lift the Cup, rounding off a remarkable weekend for Hoppers with a total of 5 trophies won!
