The Really Manly Man

Date: 28 November 2014

Regulars at Lightfoot Green will have noticed the return of a familiar face to the club in recent months. James Mawdsley has been helping 1st XV Strength and Conditioning Coaches Dave Perry and Alex Zavallis-Roebuck put the players through their paces.

James, a former Mini/Junior at the club who has played 1st XV rugby in recent years, has been playing rugby in Sydney, Australia. Whilst in Sydney he discovered a lump on his neck after weeks of feeling unwell. A trip to the doctor, followed by tests, left James with the devastating news that he had been diagnosed with stage three Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. He returned to Preston to start his treatment immediately.

James has decided to share his journey through his treatment in the form of a blog called ‘The Really Manly Man’. In his first blog post James states ‘The aim of my blog is to share my experience, my coping strategies and fight against cancer. To help and inspire other guys to talk more about their own battle with body image and confidence to accept the change.’

James has asked that we share his blog with you in the hope that it will help him raise awareness of young sportsmen dealing with cancer.

Everyone at Lightfoot Green wishes James well in his treatment. We are all behind you.
