Sammy Russell rejoins Hoppers

Date: 06 June 2024

We are delighted to announce that centre Sammy Russell returns to the club after time away, playing for local friends, Blackburn RUFC.

At 6 feet, and 17 stone, Sammy’s talents are well known across the North-West, and there was lots of competition for his signature. Sammy brings a wealth of experience, having played previously at Caldy, Anselmians, Rockingham (Australia) and Fylde. Sammy has representative honours with Lancashire.

Attack Coach, Greg Smith. said “Sammy is a great addition to the squad. He brings experience and excitement to an already very good backline. His versatility in being able to play 12 or 13 is something that we really wanted to add. Beating the competition to his signature is a massive boost for us. We are made up that Sammy could see our vision going forward and wanted to be a part of it.”

On signing, Sammy said “I’m excited for the upcoming season because it seems Hoppers are serious about improving in the league. Also, I’m looking forward to being back at this level and testing myself.”
