2nd XV derby under lights

Date: 18 October 2012

To paraphrase a quote by the late Bill Shankly, Rugby is not a matter of life or death, but Hoppers versus Fylde is more important. First team clashes between the Lancashire rivals are few and far between due to Fylde’s impressive return to rugby’s third tier. Therefore the local bragging rights focus on recent meetings between the respective second team squads. Preston have dominated these meetings in recent years including three sizeable victories in their championship winning campaign.

Hoppers travel up the M55 tomorrow night in what is sure to be a fascinating Bateman Premier League clash. Young’s men boast the division’s only 100% record and sit in third place having played a game less then the top two. Fylde sit just below in fourth place having lost out to Wlmslow last weekend. However the Hawks, as they are now known, have made great strides since last season with their backline in particular putting in some eye catching performances. Hoppers meanwhile have overpowered everybody they have come across this season with miserly defence providing the foundation for some heavy scoring.

Hoppers have yet to finalise their eighteen man squad as a number of injuries have started to take their toll. However the bulk of last Saturday’s victorious side are sure to feature again with the addition of a few fresh faces. Kick off tomorrow night is 7.30pm and all those involved would greatly appreciate as much traveling support as possible. Meet time is set for 5.15pm at Lightfoot Green or 6.00pm for those travelling direct to The Woodlands.
