2nd XV face tough start

Date: 03 January 2013

The Bateman Premier League resumes this Saturday and the second team travel to Paton Field for a tasty looking fixture against Caldy. Hoppers are looking to retain their championship and this weekend’s fixture is (on paper) the toughest possible way to start their Conference A campaign.

Having finished top of the preliminary table before the Christmas break, Young’s men will be full of optimism that they can get off to a winning start. Saturday’s hosts were the only side to overcome Hoppers in the first round of fixtures so the defending champions have something of a score to settle. Played in terrible conditions Caldy’s kick and chase style saw them run out narrow winners in a contest which could have gone either way.

Hoppers pick a strong side that is packed with experience, youth, flair and pace, so go into the fixture in fine fettle. Harrison Moulding, Oliver Farley and new signing Tom McGuinness come into the squad for the first time this season whilst the likes of Madden, Austin and Wallace return after being on first team duty. The departure time from Lightfoot Lane is 11.30am with meet time at Paton Field scheduled for 12.45pm in preparation for a 2.15pm kick off. The full squad is as follows:

Oga Mabaya
John Peterson
Dan Madden
Dan Fletcher
Alex Austin
Jonny Doney
Killian Wallace
Andy Napier
Harrison Moulding
Lewis Allen
Anthony Elliott
Cameron Berry
Oliver Farley
Tom Grimes
Mark Murray

Reps: Tom McGuinness, Sam Gale, Josh Oldland.
