2nd XV look to keep up winning streak

Date: 21 September 2012

The unbeaten second team hit the road again as they face fellow title pretenders Macclesfield. The Cheshire side have yet to be vanquished and are sure to provide sterner opposition than the brave Wilmslow side who Hoppers overpowered last weekend. Young’s men have enjoyed some ding-dong battles with Macc over the past few seasons and this Saturday’s match up will surely be another close affair.

Selection was once again a testing process as there were probably twenty two or twenty three candidates with a legitimate claim for a place in the final eighteen. However there have been just three changes to the squad from last week as Sam Gale replaces Connor Murphy who has been promoted to the first team squad. The wonderfully named Josh Thundercliffe comes in at the expense of the injured Jack Banks whilst Andrew Pollack replaces the unavailable Matt Neary.

Thundercliffe, a prop, comes with good a pedigree from Hull Ionians whilst winger Pollack has made the journey over from Northern Ireland. Both are studying in the area and have chosen to play their rugby at Hoppers which is timely boost to the senior squad.

Meeting time for Young’s men is 12.15 Lightfoot Green or 1.30 at Macclesfield. Post match dress code is the club polo shirt, black pants and black shoes, with fines issued for transgression. The full squad is as follows:

Oga Mabaya
Alan Martindale
Tim Molloy
Dan Fletcher
Alex Austin
Will Keenan
Jonny Doney
Sam Gale
Matt Conway
Lewis Allen
Anthony Elliott
Cameron Berry (c)
Harry Reddick
Russ Flynn
Matt Gargett

Reps: Brad Tuff, Josh Thundercliffe, Andrew Pollock.
