2nd XV showdown at Macclesfield

Date: 28 February 2013

The second team face an epic test of their title aspirations this weekend as they travel to league leaders Macclesfield. Hoppers know that victory will take them to the top of Conference A on points difference whilst ensuring that their championship ambitions remain firmly in their own hands. Should Young’s men win and manage to win their remaining fixtures they know that they will be overwhelming favourites to retain the championship.

There is a lot of rugby to be played before then and Hoppers know that the men from Priory Park represent formidable opposition. Just a few weeks ago twenty seconds of madness cost the second team victory against the men from Cheshire as they lost with the last play of the game. However, back in Autumn Preston travelled down the M6 and secured a convincing victory against the Lions so they have genuine grounds for optimism.

In keeping with the magnitude of the fixture Hoppers pick an exceptionally strong side, the whole pack have first team experience whilst John Young could easily have selected a squad of twenty or more. Given the advent of Spring kick off is set for 3pm with the squad due to meet at Priory Park at 1.30pm. Those convening at Lightfoot Lane should be in place at 12.15.

The squad in full is as follows:

Tom McGuinness
Brad Tuff
Dan Madden
Wayne Steel
Dan Fletcher
Jonny Doney
Alex Austin
Killian Wallace
Tom Smith
Mark Murray
Antony Elliott
Oliver Farley
Harry Reddick
Andrew Pollock
Ollie Yates

Reps: Jonti Wilson, Sam Gale, Matt Gargett.
