2nd XV Team News

Date: 05 December 2013

The second team have named their squad for this Saturday’s opening Conference A fixture against Fylde Hawks. Hoppers enter the fixture after topping the preliminary ladder and with their outstanding victory over the Hawks just 3 weeks ago still fresh in their minds.

Young’s men have enjoyed an outstanding start to the season, winning thirteen straight games, scoring 695 points (at an average of 53.5) and conceding just 183 (at a measly average of 14). Such outstanding statistics means they can pride themselves on having the best attacking and best defensive record of the fourteen sides who began the competition in September.

Fylde are a quality side though and Hoppers approach the fixture with caution and optimism rather than complacency. Young’s men will be looking for another disciplined performance with foundations laid upon their forwards who overwhelmed the Hawks at the set piece when the sides met last month.

Preston’s preparation has not been without headaches though with at least ten players injured or unavailable for selection. Reddick, Walker, Fletcher, Austin, Mawdsley, Farley, Perry and Roebuck are all on the casualty list whilst Berry, Flynn, Whyte and Truman are amongst those otherwise engaged. Meanwhile Chris Taylor’s continued excellence has earned him a well deserved call up to the first team squad for their vital game against Caldy.

However given the depth on offer at the Green these days Young is still able to call upon an experienced and exciting squad which is brimming with quality and pace. Kick off is at 12.45pm In order to give the Hoppers faithful a chance to take in the main event later in the afternoon. The lads would greatly appreciate your support.

The match day squad is as follows:

Mabaya, Wilkinson, McGuinness, Banks, Murphy, Doney, Wallace, Napier, Moulding, Murray, Rhodes-Powers, Smith, Hurst, Kendall, Marshall, Tuff, Parker, Elliott
