The second team travel to Caldy on Saturday looking for a much needed win. Hoppers suffered successive league defeats for the first time since 2011 and know that another reverse will put paid to any hopes of regaining the Bateman Premier League title. The defeat against Sedgley was especially frustrating as Young’s men deserved at least a share of the spoils. Caldy usually provide stiff opposition at Paton Field and gave Hoppers an almighty scare just before the league split into two conferences. That day is remembered for the Autumn sunshine, Jack Walker’s concussion, Caldy’s outstanding outside centre and the Preston pack losing their advantage when the scrums went (frustratingly) uncontested.
Some light is beginning to appear at the end of the lengthy injury tunnel so Young is able to select a strong match day squad. Meet time at Lightfoot Green is 11am or 12.45 for those travelling direct to Paton Field.
