2nd XV welcome Macc

Date: 07 February 2014

The second team host defending champions Macclesfield at Lightfoot Green tomorrow looking for a morale boosting victory. A win would maintain their wafer thin chances of regaining the title but in reality they are playing for pride and the opportunity to demonstrate that they’re still a force to be reckoned with.

Young’s men have been out of form, out of luck and at one point last night, seemingly out of players. Lock Jack Banks joins the injured ranks this week whilst Mabaya, Walker and Reddick made themselves unavailable for selection due to other commitments.

As a result Hoppers pick a big, powerful side with the emphasis firmly on youth. Peterson, Holmes, Flynn and Young provide the experience whilst the new pairing at half pack are schoolboy tyros Moulding and Hurst. There is also a welcome return for Anthony Elliott after his recent brushes with some pedigree chum and a hog.

Don’t forget that celebrity chef Allan Nutter provides one of his famous curry buffets before the game whilst England’s attempt to retain the Calcutta Cup will be shown on the big screen from 5pm.

Meet time is 12.45pm in readiness for a 2.15pm kick off. The full squad is as follows:

Peterson, Holmes, McGuinness, Perry, Proctor, Wilkinson, Farley, Mawdsley, Moulding, Hurst, Truman, Flynn, Marshall, Gargett, Yates

Replacements: Elliott, Geatches, Young
