Altrincham Kersal 2’s v Hoppers 2’s
Hoppers will be hoping that they’re sprinkled with a bit of Raging Bull Cup magic on Saturday as they travel to Altrincham for what could be a testing first round encounter.
The twos powered to an 80 point victory when the clubs clashed in the September sunshine but this weekend’s clash promises to be a more even contest. The hosts appear to have improved since that early season match up and still retain hopes of qualifying for the ‘A’ conference when the league splits in a weeks time. Additionally, Kersal’s first team enjoy a week off and will doubtless use the opportunity to strengthen their second string.
As per usual Hoppers are required to make a number of changes through a combination of injury, unavailability or in the case of Connor Murphy and Mark Edwards, promotion to the first team squad. Mike Lough’s tyros are boosted by the return of Mark Phillips after injury, whilst Jack Banks, Charles Hostier also return. As of Thursday night Hoppers were unsure as to the final make-up of their front row but a decision will be made on Friday morning. The bench offers a place to Chris Todd who made his club debut with the 3rd team last week. Todd, who plays full-back has made the short journey down the M55 from neighbours Fylde.
