2’s look to maintain unbeaten start

Date: 13 September 2012

The unbeaten second team travel to Wilmslow this Saturday for their third fixture in the Bateman Premier League. Newly promoted Wilmslow have lost their opening two fixtures and will be anxious to get their campaign up an running. The common curse of mankind is folly and ignorance so Coach Young and his men cannot afford to be complacent. However, given the quality of Thursday night’s training session it was evident that the squad are eagerly awaiting Saturday’s fixture and shall afford their opponents the respect they deserve.

Selection has been extremely difficult this week with a number of lads missing out on a place in the eighteen. They say that men of few words are the best men and all those concerned took their disappointment on the chin without complaint which is testament to the spirit that runs through the entire senior squad.

Dan Fletcher, Will Keenan, Lewis Allen and Matt Gargett all return to second team action after being on first team duty last weekend. As a result Jack Banks and Matt Neary move to the bench as Young’s playing resources are rotated.

A win for Hoppers will consolidate their position in the upper reaches of the league and set them up nicely for next week’s trip to title contenders Macclesfield. Chester and the newly marketed and re-branded Fylde Hawks are also unbeaten at this stage but Hoppers are coming into form with a near fully fit squad to choose from. The next few weeks should see the return of Andy Napier, Mark Murray and Pete Duckworth whilst a number of new recruits are expected to arrive from UCLan.

Meet time is scheduled for 12.30pm at Hoppers or 1.30pm at Wilmslow. The squad are travelling in cars so we’re grateful to those who have volunteered to drive. Post-game dress code is club polo shirt, black pants and shoes (fines shall be in operation). The full squad is as follows:

Mabaya
Martindale
Molloy
Fletcher
Austin
Keenan
Doney
Murphy
Conway
Allen
Elliott
Berry (c)
Gargett
Flynn
Reddick

Subs: Tuff, Banks, Neary.
