An Invitation to walk the 3 Yorkshire Peaks this Saturday

Club member Dave Smith writes

“On Saturday, I expect rugby to be off and this is an opportunity for me to undertake my 3 peaks pilgrimage which I try to do every year.  It’s 3 years since I did it.  The weather’s got to be right and sometimes all doesn’t go to plan!

So the weather’s right, the ground’s hard and the snow’s not too deep.  It looks promising.  Weather forecast is light snow and otherwise good visibility. It will be cold.  It’s 23 miles 3 decent hills – Pen-y-Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough, it takes about 9 to 9.5 hours and at this time of year we have little light.  Anybody who fancies a bit of a tester is welcome to join me.  It won’t be a race.
The plan is to leave Hoppers at 6am, Start walking 7:30 from Horton in Ribblesdale car park, do Pen-y-Ghent and Whernside, stop 20 mins at Hill Inn at about 2:00, do Ingleborough, finish about 4:30, beer in Hoppers about 5:30 to 6.  I suppose those who would like to pay a substantial fine could stop in the Hill Inn and be collected about 5pm.
I’ll be in the bar Friday night after work – hopefully about 5pm but it might be a bit later”
