Sale Sharks help Hoppers with Pitch Improvements

Date: 16 May 2018

Sale Sharks have continued in their quest to support grassroots rugby in the North West via the Bollington Insurance 100 Club initiative.

This month Preston Grasshoppers will receive a £4000 donation towards improving the training pitches at their Fulwood base. The payment is a reward to mark the the achievements of former hoppers Arron Reed and Matt Sturgess this season, with both players making their first team debuts in the European challenge cup and Anglo-Welsh Cup respectively.

The improvement works will commence in the off season and provide a fantastic newly laid playing surface for the mini and junior sections to use next year – Arron and Matt will be on hand to open up the new facilities when the work is completed. Chairman of Mini-Juniors, Hugh Duckworth is delighted “The donation by Sale Sharks has enabled the final stages (Gravel Banding) of the improvements planned for the two training areas, to be completed ahead of schedule.  This will lead to more rugby being played by an increasing number of youngsters in 2018/19.  We look forward to the opportunity for the players to show their appreciation at the start of the new season.”

Sale launched the 100 club at the start of the 2016/17 season with the long term goal of engaging and supporting 100 amateur rugby clubs in the surrounding areas.

Individual clubs are also recognised and rewarded once players who began their careers there go on make their Sale first-team debuts with further significant rewards following if that player then achieves international honours.
