Alex Hurst to Take on Dual Role in 2018/19

Date: 16 June 2018

PGRFC is delighted to announce that the experienced Alex Hurst has agreed to become a player-coach at Lightfoot Green for the 2018/19 season. Alex will combine being an important player within the squad with being the club’s new Head of Strength & Conditioning.

Hurst joined Hoppers last summer and made 13 appearances during the season. Before joining Hoppers, Alex appeared for Scotland RL in both the 2013 Rugby League World Cup and 2014 European Championship. During his time in league he played for Swinton, London Broncos and London Skolars. He has dual code experience having had stints with Fylde, Sedgely Park and Rossendale and won schoolboy representative honours with England at 16 Group level. Across both codes he is now approaching 150 career appearances.

Speaking on his new role Alex said “I’m extremely happy and excited to have re-signed for the club for next year. I can see big things happening for the club both on and off the pitch. I’m looking forward to playing more this season as I will be more available. Combining this with the S&C role will be something new to me but also very exciting. I would like to thank the club for the opportunity and will repay that faith with a fitter squad with higher performance outputs which are what this league and our brand of rugby demands”.

Head Coach Paul Arnold said “Alex has shown his class in glimpses this season and with being more available next season it is important we get as much out of him as we can, both on and off the field! He has a wealth of experience to impart across the two roles and the lads will benefit from his experience in the professional game. He is a personal trainer so he can deliver excellent programs for the players and ensure we improve our fitness levels for the step up. He has some strong ideas that he wants to implement and this will only benefit out set up”.

Alex has been sponsored this season by M&J Thistlethwaite.
