An appeal for help

Date: 17 October 2021

From General Manager, Richard Ellis

I am pleased to say that the club has emerged from the COVID pandemic in really good shape. The club house renovations are nearing completion, rugby, squash and our other sports are back being played at all levels and commercially off the field the club is returning to normal levels of trading.

Our biggest challenge is staffing, we have recruited well in bringing in Victoria Yu as operations manager, who has a wealth of hospitality industry experience. Allan Nutter has returned as head chef and we have a new full time head bar man, Rob Campbell.  We are also rebuilding our casual bar staff and waiting staff team.

Where we need help is in the kitchen to support Allan.  We are looking for anyone within the club membership who can step in and help us. Specifically we are looking for

A) on first team match days, help in the kitchen on the Saturday morning pre match to assist Allan in the preparation of the meals plus cleaning and general kitchen duties. There are 9 remaining matches this season until April.

B) similar help for functions usually Friday or Saturday afternoons into the evenings

C) daytime conferencing hosts to prepare tea and coffee and help in the kitchen to produce conference lunches and tidy up. Either mornings or afternoons or both.

D) weekend work producing food from the hatch for spectators, mini-juniors and their parents.

All the above are paid. We can combine them into one bigger job or a number of part time roles to suit.

We are really targeting anyone! You could be a parent looking for part time work.  Or a semi retired person looking for the something new or different for a few hours a week.

We are also interested in school leavers 18+ (or any age!) looking for a career in catering as we could turn the the role into an apprenticeship and enrol you in college on day release.

My appeal is for your help, if we can’t fill the roles the club will struggle to meet the demand for prematch hospitality, won’t be able to service the returning conference trade or be able to provide the service we want to for members, juniors and their parents. We have already had to turn work away as we can’t stretch our existing staff too thin.

Please consider whether you can help us continue the club’s recovery or know of anyone who might be interested. Contact myself, Richard.ellis@pgrfc.co.uk or Victoria Yu at hospitality@pgrfc.co.uk.  She will arrange an initial chat, a trial shift and training.

Thank you. Richard
