Hoppers have added a further fixture to their pre-season campaign with a game against old friends and rivals Waterloo. The match will be played at Lightfoot Green on Thursday 24th August with a 7.30pm kick off time. The match will be played on the AGP.
Waterloo will play next season in North West 1 (Level 6) following their relegation from National 3 North last year. They are led by Head Coach Stuart Turner, the former Sale Sharks and England prop and have recently bolstered their coaching team with the appointment of Sean Fletcher who will be well known to North West rugby watchers. Fletcher was a tough uncompromising lock forward who played for Fylde, Sale and Waterloo during his playing career. He is also head coach of the England Deaf XV for whom our own Peter Altham has been an instrumental figure for many seasons. Fletcher is also Head Coach of the England Police XV for whom Hoppers’ Chris Roddy has made a number of appearances.
In addition to Fletcher, Turner has also added Ben Mousley and Dan Palmer to his off-field team as they seek to bounce back to Level 5 rugby at the first attempt. Mousley will coach the Loo backs and will be assisted by Ian Aitchson. Ian will be well known to Hoppers supporters from his own distinguished playing career and is of course brother to Hoppers legend Keith.
