Hoppers 2s 65-0 Caldy 2s

Hoppers ruthlessly dispatched a young Caldy outfit and gained suitable revenge for a painful defeat inflicted at Paton Field at the end of last season. Hoppers built superbly on last week’s win over last season’s double winners, Macclesfield.

Caldy could not live with Hopper’s offloading skills and ability to retain possession through a number of phases. Despite variable weather conditions the home side looked to spread the ball wide wherever possible and proceeded to dominate all facets of the game. Hoppers scored eleven tries, three of which came from debutant lock Jack Banks who carried well and showed good intelligence and aggression throughout. Other stand out performers were Ally Murray and Jack Walker who put in a superb performance at open-side. Onlookers would have been interested to see Owen McKenna at full back who played as if he’d never been away. Next week Loughy’s young (plus a few old) charges travel to Liverpool St Helens where they will look to secure their spot at the top of the Bateman Premier League.

Report by 2nd XV manager Ade Jebb.
