Blacksticks Blue sides progress

Date: 31 March 2014

The 4 Junior teams were all in Blacksticks Blue Junior Challenge semi-final action this Sunday.

The Under 13s won away at Widnes 12-7, Hoppers were pretty dominant throughout leading 12-0 at half-time, but squandered a few good chances to score in the second half. Widnes scored a try with the last play of the game to make the score look closer than the game actually was.  The Under 13s will compete in the Plate final on 13th April at Leigh.

The Under 14s ran out comfortable winners 30*-0 away at injury hit Wigan, Hoppers started quickly and dominated the match. Wigan were game but couldn’t match Hopper’s all round team performance. Hoppers have earned a place in the Cup final where they will face rivals Fylde.

The Under 15s beat Sefton away 31-24, a beautiful warm day in Liverpool saw Hoppers compete against a hardworking and talented Sefton team and with a history of close encounters over the years. Everyone was treated to some fine competitive rugby with the tension maintained and outcome uncertain until the final whistle. It was Hoppers composure, team work and application that overcame a Sefton side dangerous in broken play to run out deserved winners in a thrilling encounter and earn themselves a place in the Cup final and will face Manchester.

The Under 16s put in a fantastic performance away at Manchester winning 37*-7, it was a good hard game with Hoppers fully deserving the win to reach their third Lancashire Cup final in a row where they will face Fylde.

The Cup finals day is to be held at Fylde this year on Sunday 27th April.
