Cheshire Back Rower Josh Longson Joins Hoppers

Date: 30 July 2022

PGRFC have continued to build their squad for their upcoming National 2 North Campaign with the addition of back rower Josh Longson.

Josh joins the club from Sandbach having also represented Cheshire in the County Championship. Previously he was captain of Leeds Beckett RFC in BUCS Super Rugby and has a fine pedigree. He can also cover the hooking position but is mainly plays on either flank. His day job sees him part of the staff at Stonyhurst College where he works alongside former Hoppers favourite Marcus Jackson.

Speaking on his signing, Head Coach Joel Unsworth said “Since my appointment I have been keen to add Josh to the squad. I know him well and know what a strong competitor he is as well as being an excellent footballer. He will add real competition to the back row resources within the squad which is already looking an area where there will be some big selection calls as we approach the season. He will also bring leadership to the dressing room and has a good game understanding”.

Speaking about recruitment to date, Unsworth added “We have taken our time to get the players we feel will enhance the squad that was already in place. We feel we’ve added more balance to the squad already and speaking to the Management group who were here last season, addressed some of the areas that we needed to. We are still looking to add a couple of players and we have some targets in mind so we will see where we get to with those. However there is a good squad in place with some 37 lads now signed on as well as a number of young players that have been promoted from the Colts who we will look to develop”.
