U9s frantic weekend

Date: 06 October 2014

Saturday 4th October

A 13 strong Hoppers team went over to Kirkham Grammar Junior School to play a game with them.  Four quarters of 10 minutes each were played, resulting in a very good contest with Hoppers coming on top overall winning 3 of the quarters and drawing the final one.

Sunday 5th October

A Hoppers team of 9 lads visited Rossendale to play in their inaugural festival.  We were put in a group with Wigan, Bolton and Eccles.  The first couple of games against Wigan and Eccles were very close finishing in defeat to Hoppers both 8 – 7, the final group game was drawn 4 – 4.  This sequence of results placed Hoppers into the Sheild competition where they came up against the hosts Rossendale.  This was a much improved performance from the Hoppers boys winning the game 9 – 1 and putting us into the Shield Final.  Unfortunately for the Hoppers boys the team they should have played in the final had made the decision to leave early meaning they didn’t get chance to play again, but this also meant that our boys were successful in winning the Shield, which was very proudly collected by the boys in the presentation.

Also on Sunday, an under 9’s Fireflies team played at home against Fleetwood.  Four 10 minute quarters were played, with Hoppers coming out 11 – 4 winners across the full 40 minutes played.

Good weekend all round for the U9s!
