Former Hoppers in Premiership action

Date: 08 May 2012

Bank holiday weekend saw 5 Hoppers of recent years in Premiership action.

Steve Diamond at Sale announced a squad that featured 23 England qualified players. This included 4 former Hoppers players with prop Lee Imiolek, flanker Will Bordill, fly half Tommy Bell and wing Tom Brady all starting the game against Harlequins. Sale lost 24-10 to the league leaders but gave a very spirited display and have qualified for the Heineken Cup next season.

It was great to see Will Bordill at Fylde on Monday cheering on his former team mates as he watched Hoppers overcome Sedgley in the Lancashire Cup Final.

At the other end of the table Simon Mcintyre was on the bench and came on for London Wasps as they lost narrowly to Newcastle. The margin of defeat was not big enough though and Wasps survive. Newcastle may yet survive as only 2 of the teams in the Championship Play Offs have applied for promotion should they be crowned champions.

It’s great to see so many young former Hoppers players making their way in the professional game. Hopefully here at Hoppers we played a small part in making that possible. Well done lads.
