Hoppers add Exciting Scrum Half Squirrel to Squad

Date: 28 August 2017

PGRFC have added exciting scrum half Jake Squirrel to their squad for the 2017/18 season.

Squirrel comes to Lightfoot Green after studying at Durham University where he represented the 1st XV. Previously he was a junior at Vale of Lune where he also made several appearances for the club’s 1st XV whilst he was also part of the Sale Sharks AASE program at Myerscough College where he worked with new Hoppers coach Donny Sutherland. He has represented Lancashire at all age groups including U18 and U20 level and the North at U18 level. He has also made two appearances for the Sale Jets XV.

Speaking to joining Hoppers, Jake said “Arnie (Head Coach Paul Arnold) is assembling a squad of guys that will be a force to be reckoned with this year. There is a culture of respect and teamwork amongst the guys and I am really looking forward to the season ahead and playing for Hoppers”.

Head of Rugby Operations Gareth Dyer said “Scrum half is a pivotal position in any team and Jake brings a strong skill set to the role. He is a good technician and offers an attaching threat with his running game. Jake will be competing with the other scrum halves we have in our squad and I think it’s a part of the squad where competition will be high for starting places. That level of competition is important in any squad and should ensure the boys battling for the 9 shirt will have to be on top of their game at all times”.

Welcome to Lightfoot Green Jake!!
