Hoppers Bolster Front Five with Addition of Powerful Purcell

Date: 29 August 2017

Hoppers have strengthened their front five options with the signing of Ryan Purcell from Firwood Waterloo.

Purcell who stands 6 foot 2 inches and 125kg can play on both sides of the front row and can also cover the second row. He has had previous spells at Clonakilty, Ormskirk and is another player who came through the Myerscough College production line.

Speaking on his move to Lightfoot Green, Ryan said “I’m really excited to be joining Preston. It’s a club with a proud history and big ambitions and those two factors alone were good reasons for me to come to the club. I know the coaches well and I am looking forward to helping the lads and the club achieve the goals we have set for the season and beyond”.

Assistant Coach Donny Sutherland said on the addition of Purcell “Ryan is a graduate from Myerscough College and from there spent time with Clonakilty which is a feeder club to Munster Rugby. He had three seasons over there which allowed him to build up a good knowledge of the game. He’s spent two seasons playing at Level 5 so he knows what this division is all about. He can play several positions which will give us some selection options”.

We look forward to seeing you in the Blue and White Ryan!
