HOPPERS CRICKET GET MUCH NEEDED WIN

Guy’s Thatched Hamlet has proved to be Hoppers’ lucky venue, as they overcame Owd Nell’s to record only their 4th win of the season on Wednesday 18th July (Week 14). The win followed three successive losses, and the last victory was at the Bilsborrow venue when they beat Guy’s, having posted 180-8, their highest total of the season so far.

Against Owd Nells, Hoppers again batted well hitting 147 off their 20 overs with 4 retiring: R. Hothersall (25), A Murray (25), G Steel (28) and R Thomas (26). Some tight bowling (K Modeste 3-14) and good fielding saw the opposition fall short on 103-9.

This much-needed win lifts Hoppers from 9th to 6th in the table and with 4 left to play, 3 at home, they would hope to finish in their customary top half of the league. Longridge currently sit top of the table on 32 points chased by Grimsargh, 2 points adrift.
