Hoppers Girls Go From Strength to strength

Date: 27 March 2019

With the Girls U15 and U18 County programme coming to a close, the Hoppers Girls can revel in the contribution they made to another successful campaign for Lancashire.

Back in January, over 90 girls (U18s) and 100+ (Under 15s) from all over the North West attended a series of trials in the hope of wearing the Red Rose for Lancashire. For Hoppers girls it was a tremendous success as six girls made it through to the playing squads at U15 and U18 respectively.

The format this year was different to that of previous years as the girls had to play both 7s and full 15 a side games against Cheshire and Yorkshire at each of the three festival days – a lot of competitive rugby and training to get through in between. Regardless, the Hoppers Girls involved did the club and county proud with their commitment and attitude, coming away with big smiles and some great memories.

Left To Right: (Top Row) Steve Tiernan (U18s Coach, Early Learning Centre), Caitlin Jones (U15, Garstang Community Academy), Charlotte Green (U15, Penwortham Girls), Emma Nuttall (U18, Kirkham Grammar)
(Bottom Row) Connie Clarke (U15, Stonyhurst College), Lydia Hunt (U18, St Aiden’s), Kasey Orel (U15, Bay Leadership Academy) Absent: Tineka Jennings (U15, Ripley St Thomas)

The development of the Hoppers Girls has been phenomenal with three of the six county girls only picking up a rugby ball for the first time back in September. The future of Girls Rugby at Hoppers seems very bright indeed.
