Sheffield Tigers vs. Preston Grasshoppers
Preston Grasshoppers travel to play at what must be one of the highest grounds in England this coming Saturday, where Sheffield Tigers have their home atop Dore Moor.
Hoppers will travel with confidence after their comprehensive winning performance over Scunthorpe last Saturday. A hat tick of tries for Hooker Christian Taylor not only helped his side win the game but also earned him the NCA Rugby Player of the Week for National League 2 North.
The ‘Tigers’ currently sit in 6th place and have enjoyed an excellent season to date winning 10 of their 17 games however they were on the wrong side of a one sided scoreline at Caldy last time out.
We only have a short history of meetings with our visitors and senior Sheffield side from Dore Moor which all began after their promotion to Level 4 rugby in 2011. The Tigers were relegated after three seasons at this level but bounced back in 2016 and are currently playing in their second spell and in total seventh season in National 2 North.
The two clubs have met twelve times since the Yorkshire side elevated themselves to this level in the league pyramid with Hoppers winning six and our visitors four.
Last season saw Hoppers do the double over the Tigers and a 10-9 win at Lightfoot Green back in September means that Hoppers are currently on a 3 game winning streak against the Yorkshire side. Let’s hope that becomes 4 on Saturday!
