Hoppers Ladies played host to Lancashire ‘Barbarians’

Date: 05 April 2018

With Good Friday being the annual Brendan Hanavan Charity game with great friends and rivals Fylde, Hoppers Ladies wanted to show their support by inviting players from across the region to form a Lancashire ‘Barbarians’ to face a Hoppers Ladies XV as a ‘curtain raiser’ to the main event.

With players from Bury, Burnley, Southport and Oldham coming together, a great game was played in great spirits with Hoppers running out 49-29 winners.

The game gave many new players a chance to get precious playing time and the more experienced players a chance to develop into or taste new positions. This culminated in a game being played at a great pace and with some pressure off, some higher risk, creative rugby culminated in some super scores from both sides.

Regardless of the score, it was obvious that both sets of girls enjoyed the game, showing that Women’s Rugby in Lancashire and beyond is developing rapidly into a wonderfully entertaining game. Well done to both sets of players and to the Referee who officiated in such a positive, encouraging manner.

Next week Hoppers Ladies travel to face Carlisle in a rearranged fixture before facing Lancaster University on the 21st April at 12pm in what should be a thriller.

Thank you for your continued support. Up the Hoppers!
