PGRFC have continued their summer recruitment campaign with the signing of Slovenian international winger George Skofic from Tarleton RUFC.
Skofic 24, is one of the famous five brothers who come from the West Lancashire club and who have all been capped for Slovenia at test level. They hold the unique record for the most siblings to play in the same international match when they all appeared in Slovenia’s 43-17 win over Bulgaria in April 2014.
So far he has made 7 full appearances and has scored 7 tries for his country.
Speaking on his move, George said “I am really excited about joining Hoppers and I am ready to take on a new challenge. I have been with Tarleton for 19 years and I would like to thank everyone there for their support and help over that time. I have really enjoyed my time at Carr Lane but I feel now is a good time for me to test myself at this level and I look forward to joining in and getting to know the rest of the squad once we start pre-season”.
Head Coach Paul Arnold said “I have been keeping an eye on George for the last couple of seasons and I am delighted he’s coming to Hoppers. He’s a handful of a winger with pace and power who I’m sure will be able to make the step up in leagues. He will be one to watch this season”.
Head of Rugby Operations Gareth Dyer also paid tribute to the work done at Skofic’s former club. “Tarleton have done fantastically well to develop and grow as a club over the years. They are a very well run club with a great approach to the game. I would like to thank Steve Gough at Tarleton for his understanding and supporting George’s move to Hoppers. Developing positive relationships with local clubs like Tarleton is something we want to improve on in the coming seasons”.
Welcome to Lightfoot Green George!
