Hoppers snap up promising Connor

Date: 24 May 2017

PGRFC are delighted to announce that they have secured England Counties U18 hooker Connor Johnson (pictured in the middle) for the 2017/18 season.

Connor, a product of Blackburn RUFC and Myerscough College, had a season to remember in the last campaign having won representative honours with Lancashire U18 (whom he also captained) and the North of England U18 before being selected to tour with England Counties U18 for their two-test trip to Ireland in April. He was selected to start the first test where he was joined in the match day squad by fellow Hoppers newcomer Jack Granby.

A strong running front rower with a solid set-piece, Johnson will be mentored into senior rugby by the Hoppers coaching staff and experienced hooker Paul Millea.

Speaking on his signing, Connor said “I’m excited to be part of the Hoppers senior squad for next season. I’m looking forward to working with Paul Arnold and the rest of the coaches whilst also learning from my team mates. I aim to work hard and give myself the best opportunity to develop my game further”.

Head of Rugby Operations Gareth Dyer said “Connor is another promising young player who we feel has the potential to do well at Lightfoot Green. We felt we had room within the squad to develop a young hooker and I am sure working closely with Paul (Millea) will benefit his development. I look forward to seeing Connor in action in the blue and white next season.

Our recruitment so far for next season has a nice mix to it. We have brought in some experience and some exciting young talent which will complement the balance of the squad we already have in place. We are keen to nurture and develop the young talent we have in the senior squad and further announcements to be made shortly will reiterate our commitment to that”.

Welcome to Lightfoot Green Connor!
